The Problem: NFTs Got Stale

Few could've predicted the explosive rise of NFTs in 2021.

Projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and CryptoPunks set the tone with their now-iconic 10,000-supply model. They used the ERC-721 token standard on Ethereum to create unique and differentiable digital assets.

This model quickly became the template. Collections like Cool Cats, Pudgy Penguins, Azuki, and Doodles followed the same structure — limited supply, unique traits, and high price tags.

But while these NFTs enabled artistic and individual expression, they also introduced serious problems:

❌ Too exclusive (typically capped at 10,000 NFTs)

❌ Expensive to mint, buy, or transfer

❌ Illiquid, especially outside NFT markets

❌ Limited in customization and relevance over time

By 2023, the NFT space was dying. Gas fees, exclusivity, and waning cultural relevance killed most projects. The novelty wore off.

The NFT space needed something new and truly scalable. Something that could grow with internet culture — not just something for 10,000 people, but for massive communities made up of millions of people.

NPC Is Built Different
